Giving back: Today Gives me Hope
I was invited by my local high school’s Green Team to talk about Sustainability in Small Business, how to identify ethical and sustainable products and how to incorporate sustainable actions into your daily life.
I was expecting 10-15 students. 50+ showed up! More than 50 young adults, with open minds and curious hearts came to listen to what I had to say! I was blown away. I talked about Second Nature Studio, what and why I produce art and products the way I do. How and why research and understanding is so very important when purchasing products deemed eco-friendly. We discussed what makes an ethical business and what doesn’t, little hint it has to do with balance. We talked about how to see through Greenwashing, how to look for transparency from companies and I encouraged them to ask questions when the information didn’t seem to match the claims. I showed them how I align my sustainable goals to actions. And finally we had a great discussion about ways to bring sustainable actions into their daily lives. I left feeling invigorated and hopeful. Hopeful that even just a handful of students question their next purchases and change some habits we will be heading in the right direction.
